The idea for the Shoebox Stories was sparked by a shoebox on the floor, waiting to be be discarded, passed by for days, but suddenly commanding attention and a call to action. The box shape seemed perfect for framing a narrative, an event or a scene. The narratives can arise from personal experiences from the past and present, news bites, and fiction from favourite authors. The shoebox loses its common association with comfort and instead looks at how individuals fit or don't fit into expectations and norms brought upon them by societal changes. There are pressures but there are also release valves. Inner reflection, looking at things from a wider perspective and some humour offer outlets from feeling "boxed in".
