The idea for the Shoebox Stories was sparked by a shoebox on the floor, waiting to be be discarded, passed by for days, but suddenly commanding attention and a call to action. The box shape seemed perfect for framing a narrative, an event or a scene. The narratives arise from personal experiences, memories, news bites, and fiction from favourite authors. During my process the shoebox is tranformed from its role of containment into a backdrop for dioramas that reflect social situations and interactions within the current socio-political landscape.
